In recent years, vintage has made a comeback in our interiors. This trend has been driven by Instagram in particular. Vintage furniture and decor has a warm, inviting vibe that is perfect for creating a cozy and welcoming home.

Foremost among popular vintage designs is Mid-century modern, which originated in Anglophone countries in the mid-20th century, most notably the United States. Although not of North American origin, the Office Cane Chair, designed by French furniture designer Pierre Jeanneret, represents the era par excellence. Solid wood, organic shapes and lines, and rich colors characterize the simple design.

Ten years later came the turning point. While geometric shapes remained prominent in the 1960s and 1970s, more vibrant colors and riskier furniture designs took over the home furnishings market. From shag rugs to avocado green kitchen appliances, there was no shortage of ways to make a statement. These days, the bold prints and colors of the retro years are enjoying a resurgence in popularity.

If you want to incorporate all three eras into your interior design, you can create a vintage aesthetic with these three simple tips.

Incorporate Colors

To add pops of color to your home, choosing statement accessories is a great place to start. A colorful vase or patterned lampshade can really make a room pop and is a great way to add personality to your decor.

Go For Different Textures and Patterns

The 1970s in particular were a time of experimentation when it came to your home decor. Use complementary colors and patterns at first. Over time, swap pillows, wall color, or add wall wallpaper to give your decor even more depth.

Wallpapers

In the 1980s and 90s wallpapers fell into oblivion. In recent years, they have made a comeback. They add style and, above all, personality to an interior. While in past decades wallpapers with colorful patterns and bright colors dominated, today's wallpapers feature more subtle patterns and muted colors. The results are chic and sophisticated and can completely transform a room.
